Coming to the screen: Week of Feb. 9
Each Tuesday, Booked & Screened looks at film and television releases in the week ahead. We track what’s coming, what it’s based on and who’s bringing it to the screen. Below are the adaptations being released this week.
‘Artful Dodger’ Season 2
Streaming Feb. 10 on Hulu
“The Artful Dodger” is inspired by the characters of Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist.” The series follows Jack Dawkins (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) as he faces danger while Lady Belle pursues a future in medicine.
David Thewlis, Maia Mitchell, Tim Minchin and Damien Garvey co-star in the series, with Luke Bracey and Zac Burgess joining the cast in Season 2.
‘Cold Storage’
In theaters Feb. 13
“Cold Storage” is based on the 2019 novel by David Koepp, who is also known for his work as a screenwriter on major studio films including “Jurassic Park” and “Carlito’s Way.”
The adaptation stars Joe Keery, Georgina Campbell and Liam Neeson (“The Chronicles of Narnia”). The comedy-horror film follows two night-shift employees at a self-storage facility built over a former military base as they confront a brain-controlling parasitic fungus threatening global catastrophe.
‘Crime 101’
In theaters Feb. 13
“Crime 101” is adapted from Don Winslow’s 2020 novel of the same name. The crime thriller follows a series of high-stakes jewel heists and the law enforcement efforts to stop them. Winslow is an award-winning author whose work has frequently been adapted for film, including “Savages,” with additional projects in development such as “Collision,” starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
“Crime 101” stars Chris Hemsworth (“Thor”), Mark Ruffalo (“Shutter Island,”) Barry Keoghan (“The Green Knight”) and Halle Berry (“Cloud Atlas”).
‘Wuthering Heights’
In theaters Feb. 13
Emily Brontë’s classic novel, published in 1847, returns to the big screen with “Wuthering Heights.” The latest adaptation revisits the dark romance between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw on the Yorkshire moors.
The film stars Margot Robbie (“The Wolf of Wall Street“) and Jacob Elordi (“Frankenstein“) and is directed by Emerald Fennell, whose previous work includes “Saltburn” and “Promising Young Woman.” Fennell is also an actress, who starred as Camilla Parker-Bowles in “The Crown.”
‘Love Me Love Me’
Streaming Feb. 13 on Prime Video
“Love Me Love Me” is based on the first novel by Stefania S.’s “Love Me Love Me” four-book series, which has drawn more than 23 million reads on Wattpad.
The romantic drama centers on June (Mia James), who moves to Milan after her brother’s death and enrolls in an elite international school. She begins dating Will (Luca Melucci), a straight-A student who offers her stability, but her life gets complicated by his best friend, James (Pepe Barroso Silva), who is secretly involved in MMA fights.
‘Museum of Innocence’
Streaming Feb. 13 on Netflix
Adapted from Orhan Pamuk’s novel of the same name, “The Museum of Innocence” is set in Istanbul in the 1970s.
The drama centers on wealthy Kemal (Selahattin Paşalı), whose obsessive love for a poor distant relative, Füson (Eylül Lize Kandemir), unfolds over decades.
‘Like Water for Chocolate’
Streaming Feb. 15 on HBO Max
The second and final season of “Like Water for Chocolate” continues the adaptation of Laura Esquivel’s novel. The drama blends romance and magical realism, and was adapted as a film in 1993.
In Season 2, which follows the second half of Esquivel’s novel, Pedro (Andres Baida) returns and he and Tita (Azul Guaita) face an uncertain future against the background of a changing Mexico.
