One of the most anticipated book-to-screen adaptations of the year is about to make a big play.

The final trailer for “Project Hail Mary,” the upcoming sci-fi film adapted from the 2021 novel by Andy Weir, will debut during the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 8, ahead of the movie’s theatrical release later this spring.

“Project Hail Mary” stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a former science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship light-years from Earth with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memory slowly returns, Grace realizes he has been sent on a mission to solve a cosmic mystery threatening the survival of humanity: a substance that is causing the sun to die.

With scientific know-how and a habit of thinking outside the box, Grace works to uncover the truth behind the phenomenon — and how to stop it. Along the way, an unexpected friendship raises the emotional stakes beyond simple survival.

The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung and Milana Vayntrub.

Weir’s bestselling novel follows the success of his breakout hit “The Martian,” which was also adapted into a film. The Super Bowl trailer is expected to offer the biggest look yet at how “Project Hail Mary” translates to the screen.

The film arrives in theaters March 20.
