Apple TV released a teaser trailer Wednesday for “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” a new comedy-drama series starring Elle Fanning and based on the bestselling novel by Rufi Thorpe. 

The brief trailer shows clips of Margo (Elle Fanning) as she learns she’s pregnant and realizes having a baby isn’t going to be cheap. Clearly exasperated by growing bills and pressure from her mother, Margo finds herself lying on the ground in a department store and screaming from atop a parking garage.

The daughter of a Hooters waitress (Michelle Pfeiffer) and a former professional wrestler (Nick Offerman), Margo begins creating content on OnlyFans to help support herself and her baby. 

The series, which is expected to debut on Apple TV on April 15, also stars Nicole Kidman, Greg Kinnear and Thaddea Graham. David E. Kelley is the creator of the project, and Dearbhla Walsh, Kate Herron and Alice Seabright serve as directors. 

Kelley and Kidman previously worked together on three other adaptations—“The Undoing,” based on “You Should Have Known” by Jean Hanff Korelitz; and “Big Little Lies” and “Nine Perfect Strangers,” based on novels by Liane Moriarty. 

In addition to starring in the series, Elle Fanning is one of the show’s executive producers along with her sister, Dakota Fanning. The two will be sharing scenes for the first time in 2017 in an adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s World War II drama, “The Nightingale.”

The novel “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” Thorpe’s most recent, was released in 2024. She’s also the author of “The Girls from Corona del Mar,” “Dear Fang, with Love” and “The Knockout Queen,” which was a finalist for the Pen/Faulkner Award.
