Curtis Sittenfeld’s ‘Prep’ to become Netflix TV series

Curtis Sittenfeld’s 2005 debut novel “Prep” has been picked up by Netflix. “One Day” writer and executive producer Nicole Taylor and Gloria Sanchez Productions are adapting the book for television.

The story follows Lee Fiora, who receives a scholarship to Ault, a New England boarding school, where she struggles to fit in among the wealthier students. The coming-of-age story explores first crushes, complicated friendships and class differences.

Sittenfeld, who also wrote “Eligible” and “Romantic Comedy,” commented on the news on Facebook.

“After 22 years and quite a few false starts…’Prep’ is really for real being made as a TV show! By Netflix! And by the showrunner Nicole Taylor, whose scripts are SO unbelievably good, and the super-smart executive producer, Alix Taylor, who first read Prep as a middle schooler. Other producers include me…and Will Ferrell (yes, really, we’ve never met, but I did laugh so hard I cried while rewatching ‘Blades of Glory’ on a plane recently).”

Deadline reported the writers’ room will open in January.

About the writer

S. Lynn Bonanno has read “Prep” and is a total Sittenfan. She highly recommends Sittenfeld’s “Eligible”—a modern take on “Pride and Prejudice”—, ”Sisterland” and “Romantic Comedy,” which is also being adapted for the screen.
