‘Bridgerton’ spinoff to tell Violet and Edmund’s love story

Netflix announced Thursday that a new series following the love story of Violet and Edmund Bridgerton—the parents of Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory and Hyacinth—is in the works.

The news arrived via Lady Whistledown stationery on Instagram:

“Dearest Gentle Reader,

The time has come for us to turn our attention to the Matriarch of our beloved Bridgertons.

A new series, chronicling the romance of a young Violet and Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, is underway.

In Season 3 of “Bridgerton,” which is based on the books by Julia Quinn, Violet (Ruth Gemmell) begins a romance with Lady Danbury’s younger brother, Lord Marcus. It is the first time since her husband Edmund’s death, which happened while she was pregnant with their youngest, Hyacinth, that she has entertained the idea of romance.

Young Violet previously appeared in the 2023 spinoff “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” where she was played by Connie Jenkins-Greig.

This will be the second “Bridgerton” spinoff series. The first followed the young Queen Charlotte and her marriage to King George.

Shonda Rhimes, “Bridgerton” executive producer, will co-write and serve as showrunner of the limited series with Nicholas Nardini. Tom Verica will direct.

Season 5 is currently in production and will focus on the relationship between Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza).
