Production has been paused on “The Batman Part II” while director Matt Reeves steps away to handle a personal matter, Warner Bros. and DC Studios announced.
A studio representative confirmed the production pause in a statement provided to Deadline and Variety.
“Production on ‘The Batman Part II’ has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” the statement said. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
It was not yet clear whether the production pause would affect the film’s scheduled opening date of Feb. 18, 2028.
“The Batman Part II” was originally set to open in theaters on Oct. 2 of this year, but was delayed to Oct. 1, 2027. The delay until February 2028 was announced in July.
The studio said at the time that the latest delay was aimed at giving Reeves ample time to focus on post-production once filming concludes.
Robert Pattinson returns to the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, which he first played in 2022’s “The Batman,” which was also directed by Reeves.
Other stars returning for the sequel include Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, aka the Penguin.
New additions to the cast include Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham and Sebastian Koch.
Deadline initially reported Stan would be playing Harvey Dent, the Gotham City district attorney fated to become the villainous Two-Face, but the role has not been confirmed by the studio or the actor.
