Marvel Entertainment released the first full-length trailer for the upcoming crossover film “Avengers: Doomsday,” offering the first real look at Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.
“Something’s coming,” Downey, who played Tony Stark/Iron Man in 10 MCU films from 2008-2019, says in a voiceover. “Something we may not be able to deter. Before this day is done, we shall be faced with an unthinkable decision.”
The trailer for “Doomsday,” the first Avengers film since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” features glimpses of Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) before cutting to the first official look at Downey in his metallic Doctor Doom mask.
The trailer also features footage of the Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn) crossing over into the MCU proper to meet with the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Captain America (Anthony Mackie), and Ant Man (Paul Rudd).
The film’s plot remains a tightly-guarded secret, but the trailer offers some hints as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) warns a group of assembled heroes about an oncoming threat—possibly Doctor Doom, possibly something else.
The trailer also features face-offs between characters from the MCU and defunct Fox “X-Men” universe, including Gambit (Channing Tatum) and Shang-Chi (Simu Liu), and Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) and Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh).
Black Panther (Letitia Wright), Namor (Tenoch Huerta), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Cyclops (James Marsden), Red Guardian (David Harbour), USAgent (Wyatt Russell), Ghost (Ava Starr) and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) also appear in the trailer.
The trailer ends with Thor reuniting with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), who was last seen as an old man after traveling through time at the close of “Endgame.” Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, flies to the former Captain America’s hand, confirming his identity.
“Avengers: Doomsday,” directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, releases Dec. 18.

Ben Hooper really, really wants this movie to be good, but… I don’t know, man. It’s got a lot of course-correcting to do after how inconsistent Marvel movies have been since 2019. He is, however, heartened by the noticeable lack of Deadpool in this trailer.
