Sibling relationships are some of the most complicated—and compelling—dynamics in storytelling. From loyalty to rivalry, they’ve driven some of the most memorable adaptations on screen.

The obvious adaptations about siblings include “Pride and Prejudice,” “Little Women,” “The Godfather,” “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Legends of the Fall” and the controversial “Flowers in the Attic.” 

Booked & Screened is celebrating the wonderful but often complex relationship between siblings with a list of five books made into recent TV shows and films.

‘Scarpetta’

Nicole Kidman stars as forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta in an adaptation of Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling crime novels. The series focuses on Scarpetta solving crimes, but it also centers on her volatile relationship with her sister Dorothy (Jamie Lee Curtis). The series premiered March 11 on Prime Video and a second season is in production.

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’

This coming-of-age romance drama is based on Jenny Han’s trilogy “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “It’s Not Summer Without You,” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.” At the center of this Prime Video series is a love triangle between Belly (Lola Tung) and brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Season 1 premiered in 2022 and the series finale premiered in 2025. The cast is currently shooting a film to conclude the story.

‘The Better Sister’

The Prime Video thriller stars Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks as sisters Chloe and Nicky who have a complicated past. Based on the 2019 novel by Alafair Burke, the series follows the fallout from Chloe’s husband Adam’s (Corey Stoll) shocking murder. The sisters have to come together to solve the mystery.

‘We Were Liars’

Based on the 2014 young adult bestseller by E. Lockhart, “We Were Liars” focuses on a set of siblings and their teen children. It was adapted into a Prime Video series in June and stars Caitlin Fitzgerald, Mamie Gummer and Candice King as the wealthy—and competitive—Sinclair sisters. It centers on Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind), who has no memory of the tragedy that happened on her grandfather’s private island and tries to put the mystery together.

‘Bridgerton’

Any list featuring siblings would be remiss if it didn’t feature the attractive Bridgerton family. Each season, we watch a new Bridgerton find love in expected and unexpected ways. Season 1 focused on the oldest sister Daphne (Phoebe Dynevor) finding love, Season 2 on eldest brother Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), Season 3 on brother Colin (Luke Newton), Season 4 on Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Season 5 will focus on Francesca’s (Hannah Dodd) romance. The siblings squabble, as siblings do, but they always come back together. What makes it so complicated is that there are so many of them! Eight in total.

Bonus: ‘The Nightingale‘

“The Nightingale,” an upcoming film based on Kristin Hannah’s book of the same name,  stars siblings Dakota and Elle Fanning as sisters Vianne and Isabelle. They are also producing the film, which will be released Feb. 12, 2027.
