Paul Feig’s film “The Housemaid,” adapted from Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel, continues to break records.
Starz announced Thursday that the 2025 film starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried is the highest driver of acquisition and streaming viewership for any Pay 1 title. The streamer said that it was female viewers who broke this record.
The psychological thriller is Sweeney’s highest-grossing star vehicle. The sequel, “The Housemaid’s Secret,” will premiere in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027. It will continue the story of Millie (Sweeney’s character). It is based on “The Housemaid’s Secret,” the second book in Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller series. Michele Morrone’s character, Enzo, will be featured in the sequel. Kirsten Dunst was recently announced as an addition to the cast.
McFadden has also been in the news this week. The author revealed her real name, Sara Cohen, to USA Today and that “Freida McFadden” is her pen name. She didn’t want her successful career as an author to distract from her work as a doctor who specializes in brain disorders.
