Meryl Streep is Enid in ‘The Corrections’
Netflix announced Thursday that Meryl Streep will star as Enid in an adaptation of Jonathan Franzen’s 2001 book “The Corrections.” The story follows a mother who is trying to hold her family together at Christmas during several crises. Cord Jefferson will direct and produce the limited series.
Lin-Manuel Miranda to direct ‘Octet’ adaptation
“Hamilton” and “In the Heights” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda will direct an adaptation of Dave Malloy’s Off-Broadway musical “Octet.” He last directed a musical in 2021—Jonathan Larson’s musical “tick, tick…BOOM!”
First look: ‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ S2
BBC and Netflix shared a first look at Season 2 of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.” Emma Myers stars as Pippa Fitz-Amobi in the series, which is based on Holly Jackson’s YA mystery series. Season 2 will follow the story in the second book, “Good Girl, Bad Blood.”
‘Friendship List’ to become animated series
Lisa Greenwald’s tween series “Friendship List” is getting adapted into an animated series as part of a deal between HarperCollins and Toonstar. The series, which follows a pair of best friends, was first published in 2017.
‘London Falling’ true story to become series
A24 is adapting Patrick Radden Keefe’s upcoming novel “London Falling: A Mysterious Death in a Gilded City and a Family’s Search for Truth.” The project, which began as an article in The New Yorker, follows the investigation into the 2019 death of Zach Brettler, whose parents later discovered he had been living a double life. The true story will be developed as a TV series.
‘Three Goodbyes’ to open Istanbul Film Festival
Italian film “Three Goodbyes” will open the Istanbul Film Festival, which runs April 9 to 19. The film is based on the late Michela Murgia’s book of the same name about the Italian writer’s diagnosis of kidney cancer.
‘Housemaid’ sequel to premiere 2027
“The Housemaid’s Secret” will hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2027. The sequel will continue the story of Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney, and is based on “The Housemaid’s Secret,” the second book in Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller series. Michele Morrone’s character Enzo will be featured in the sequel and Kirsten Dunst was recently announced as an addition to the cast.
‘Amadeus’ to premiere May 8
The series “Amadeus,” an adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s 1979 play, will premiere on May 8. The play was previously adapted into the Oscar-winning 1984 film starring Tom Hulce. Will Sharpe stars as 25-year-old Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart and Paul Bettany as jealous composer Antonio Salieri. The five-part series will stream on Starz.
John Travolta book to screen
John Travolta’s film “Propeller One-Way Night Coach” is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The Apple Original film is an adaptation of Travolta’s 1997 children’s book of the same name. Travolta will also direct the film, which will debut on AppleTV on May 29.
Alec Baldwin joins cast of ‘Kockroach’
Alec Baldwin is joining Chris Hemsworth, Taron Egerton, and Zazie Beetz in “Kockroach.” The NYC crime thriller is based on William Lashner’s 2007 novel of the same name. Matt Ross is set to direct.
Laura Dern to star in Jeffrey Epstein series
The Oscar winner will star and executive produce the limited series, adapted from Julie K. Brown’s book “Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story.” Dern will star as Miami Herald reporter Brown, whose reporting in 2018 broke the news of Epstein’s sex trafficking. Sony Pictures TV and Adam McKay are joining up with Dern for the project.
‘The Other Woman’ to be TV series
Billings Productions has optioned Sandie Jones’ 2018 novel “The Other Woman.” The psychological thriller follows Emily, who falls in love with Adam and has to contend with her obsessive mother-in-law Pammie, who is more dangerous than she lets on.
‘The Marriage Bargain’ heading to the screen
Twentieth Century Studios has acquired the rights to Jennifer Probst’s “The Marriage Bargain.” The 2012 novel was the first in the “Married to a Billionaire” series. The rom-com follows Alexa and Nicholas and a fake marriage that will help each of them financially. But you know how that usually goes.
‘Rivals’ returning in May
“Rivals,” adapted from Dame Jilly Cooper’s novel of the same name, is returning to Disney+/Hulu for a second season on May 15. The series stars David Tennant as Lord Tony Baddingham and Alex Hassell as Rupert Campbell-Black. Aidan Turner, Danny Dyer and Katherine Parkinson also star. It focuses on a rivalry in 1986 between two men working in independent television in England. The book is part of Cooper’s “Rutshire Chronicles.”
‘The Nightingale’ starts filming
Kristin Hannah announced in a video on Instagram that “The Nightingale,” the adaptation of her 2018 novel, has started filming. She teased, ”I don’t have any photos to share, but don’t worry, I will report back from the set when I get there! Tell your friends it’s coming to theaters next year.” Sisters Dakota and Elle Fanning will star as sisters Vianne and Isabelle. They are also producing the film, which will be released Feb. 12, 2027.
ICYMI: Gwyneth Paltrow to star in Netflix’s ‘Strangers’
Gwyneth Paltrow is set to star in Belle Burden’s memoir “Strangers: A Memoir of Marriage.” Netflix has acquired the rights to the book, which follows Burden’s divorce in March 2020, early in the pandemic.
